MORAIRA

Moraira

Moraira lies in a bay, on the South Eastern coast of Spain, between the larger resorts of Javea and Calpe. Moraira is perhaps the “Jewel in the Crown” of the North Costa Blanca. Originally a small fishing village on a sheltered bay below a rocky headland, it remains one of the most unspoilt and pretty resorts on the coast. This is due in the main to the local town hall exerting strong planning laws for many years, which has prevented the kind of development typical in other parts of Spain.

Property in Moraira is varied and ranges from luxurious harbour side penthouses to detached private villas located on the hills behind the town.

The two main local gently-shelving sandy beaches, awarded the prestigious EEC Blue Flags for cleanliness, are well tended and very safe for family bathing. In fact the whole of the Costa Blanca has 34 Blue Flag beaches. Other local leisure facilities include 3 large Golf courses, tennis, football, squash, all water sports, boat hire and trips, horse-riding, go-kart racing tracks for both adults and children, a small fairground and three good night-clubs for all ages. Moraira also boasts an exclusive marina, many shops and restaurants to suit every taste and budget, including one that is featured in the Michelin guide. Friday is market day and a great chance to hunt out a bargain.

Moraira enjoys a typical subtropical Mediterranean climate, with cool sea breezes in summer and protection by surrounding mountains against the cold North winds in winter. The area averages nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine each year and the average temperature easily exceeds 20 degrees. In 1986 the World Health Organisation recommended the climate of the area as one of the most equitable in the world - neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter. On average it can boast 325 sunny days each year making it an ideal all year round destination.

Infrastructure

Moraira has excellent services and a modern infrastructure that includes a brand new school and medical centre. In addition to several supermarkets there is a wide choice of activities such as golf, tennis, walking, cycling and horse riding.

Getting there

Moraira is located approximately 1 hours drive from either Alicante or Valencia airport and is easily accessible from the main A7 motorway link.
